What Is KPV?
KPV (Lysine-Proline-Valine) is the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). When researchers isolated what α-MSH was actually doing on the anti-inflammatory side, KPV is what they found. It keeps the powerful NF-κB inhibition and cytokine suppression, but drops the melanotropic effects entirely — making it a cleaner research tool for studying inflammation without the confounding variables.
What Researchers Are Studying It For
KPV's primary mechanism is NF-κB inhibition — suppressing the master regulator of inflammatory gene expression. In practical terms, research shows it reduces TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. It's been studied heavily for gastrointestinal mucosal repair, particularly in colitis models where nanoparticle-delivered KPV significantly reduced mucosal inflammation markers.
